We all get by with a little help from our friends
Their day at the Brownstone had gone fairly well. There was a lot of pain and plenty of tears were shed, but at the end of it all, Addison and Derek had managed to find each other again. They were starting over, beginning a new life. It wasn't so much a clean slate because their past was always going to be there, but they were finally getting past it and letting go, moving on with their lives so they could be happy the way they should be.

After they'd spent the rest of their afternoon together shopping and doing other "things," they decided to give their friends and family a call, knowing that they'd never be able to live it down if someone found out that they were back in New York and didn't bother to tell anyone. Addison had called Savvy and Weiss first before calling Derek's mom. The plan soon became having dinner with Savvy and Weiss that evening and lunch with Mama Shepherd the next day.

Now they were at their friends' house. Derek was out in the living room with Weiss while Addison stayed in the kitchen to help Savvy.

Addison smiled back at her and lifted the glass of wine to her lips, taking another drink. She nodded her head as she stared at the glass in her hand. She was really happy again, and she knew that it was all thanks to Derek. Without him, she would have never been able to get back here. Had she gone on to Mark, or Finn, or whoever, she would have never been able to be this happy again. Addison and Derek were just meant to be.

"It's good to be happy again," she said with slight smirk. "What about you, Savvy? You look good. How are things with you and Weiss?"

"Weiss and I are significantly more boring than you and Derek. It didn't take us long to settle back into our old married couple routine after we got back from Seattle," Savvy answered honestly, pausing before leaning in slightly and lowering her voice, more for effect than any real necessity, "But the sex? With all these hormones from the hrt and no risk of getting pregnant, we're kind of like horny teenagers again."

Addison giggled, keeping quiet about how she and Derek had been going at it since they got back together. It was really nice to know that Savvy and Weiss were doing well. The last time she'd seen them, they were torn apart by her ordeal. At the end of it all, though, Weiss had pulled through and was there for Savvy. She was glad that things continued to go well for two of her greatest friends.

"That's really wonderful, Savvy," Addison said, placing her hand onto Savannah's arm. "Have you guys talked about starting a family, though? I know before you flew out to Seattle, the two of you had been trying."

She wasn't trying to rub it in or anything, but she had to wonder. A family and children was one of her top priorities now, and it occupied much of her mind. She and Derek were more in love than they had ever been, and they were definitely ready. It was just a matter of them getting settled in their new life in Seattle and then discussing it.

Savvy's eyes instinctively dropped down to the dark liquid in her glass at Addison's mention of family. That had been one of Weiss's troubles with the surgery she'd chosen to go through after her mother's death, and they had briefly discussed adoption, but nothing had been pushed through as of yet.

"Well, you know, Weiss was really against me having the surgery because of that, but he's kind of come to terms with it," Savvy answered, lifting her eyes to Addison after taking a drink of her wine, "We'll get to the adoption discussion eventually, but Weiss hasn't expressed a lot of interest in that yet. He's not ready to give up on the dream of having his own, I guess."

Addison placed a comforting hand on Savvy's back, rubbing it up and down as she watched her friend. She could tell that Savvy wasn't too happy about putting it off, and if she was in her shoes, she wouldn't have been happy either. She knew what it was like to almost give up on that dream of a family. It wasn't pleasant and no one should ever have to go through it.

"I'm sure he'll come around to it soon," she said softly as she continued to rub circles onto Savvy's back. "I know Weiss wants this just as much as you do. He's probably just waiting for the right time."

Savvy nodded, a small smile coming to her lips at Addison's attempt to comfort her. She knew her friend was right. Weiss would come around, and she'd never been opposed to prodding him to agree with her before. It was just hard to see her husband, who had once been so firmly rooted in wanting to have children, pulling away at that aspect. Although, from knowing what Addison and Derek had been through, Addison could more than empathize.

"Thanks, Add," She finally spoke in appreciation, "I know he will. I think I'm going to have to start pushing, though. I want to have a family while I'm still young enough to enjoy it."

"I understand," Addison said, nodding her head. "Maybe I can get Derek to give him a little push as well before we go back to Seattle."

She smiled, figuring that this plan could benefit her too. If she brought up to the subject of getting Weiss to start thinking about adoption, it might bring to attention the possibility of Addison and Derek starting a family. It was time they started thinking about children. She wasn't getting any younger, and the longer they waited, the more risks they were taking in regards to her health and the baby's. Besides, a baby would add to the joy that they both deserved so much after everything.

"I would really appreciate that. It'd be nice if Weiss got someone else's influence," Savvy grinned, "I sometimes think he gets sick of listening to me."

She and Weiss certainly had other friends still here in New York, but they weren't as close to any of them as they were to Derek and Addison. It was nice to have someone who understood her and she could talk frankly, too.

"I think that applies to every husband, though, at one point or another," Addison laughed before picking up her glass and finishing off her wine.

She had really missed doing stuff like this, just hanging out and talking over a few drinks. Back in Seattle, everyone was always caught up with their own drama or even other people's drama. They rarely had the time to go out and have a few drinks with her. Here in New York, she had friends who would make the time, and she really missed that.

"Well that wouldn't be the case if they'd just listen to us in the first place," Savvy grinned, mimicking Addison and draining the last of her wine before resting the empty glass on the counter.

She paused for a moment, considering what topic she was going to broach next. They hadn't had much opportunity to keep up with each other, and now it was difficult to determine exactly what to discuss next.

"So, how's that trailer?"
xaddis0nx on June 1st, 2007 02:51 pm (UTC)
"Still there," Addison scoffed, "In the middle of the woods. I've been trying to get him to blow it up, but he refuses to comply."

She shrugged, a smile on her face as she recalled all of the moments where she'd playfully tell him to blow up the trailer. Keeping it was what Derek wanted, though, and she could live with that as long as Derek was happy.

"We did briefly talk about getting a house, though; building it on Derek's plot of land. It'd still be in the middle of the woods, but at least it'd be bigger than my closet at the Brownstone," she joked, letting out a small laugh.

Savvy giggled when Addison mentioned blowing up the trailer. She couldn't blame her friend for considering that, though. If Weiss had ever tried to get her to live in a trailer, she would have resisted with all her might. Living in an aluminum box in the middle of the woods was nothing any woman would ever do willingly.

"I must say, I do admire your ability to compromise. Weiss would definitely not be getting my cooperation if he wanted me to live in someplace that certainly wouldn't hold half my clothes," Savvy grinned.
xaddis0nx on June 2nd, 2007 12:58 am (UTC)
Addison laughed at that. She was sure that all of her friends from New York would feel the same way. They were all high maintenance, needing tons of closet space for all of their shopping sprees. She understood the initial shock when people thought about Addison Forbes Montgomery-Shepherd actually living in a trailer in the middle of no where. A year ago she would have felt the same way.

"The things we do for love," she said softly with a small smile on her face.

She'd endured a lot in the past year, taken every blow Derek threw at her. As tough and painful as all of that was, she would do it all again if it meant that she and Derek would get to where they were now. It was all worth it, because being with Derek is always worth it.

Savvy nodded in semi-understanding. The thought of living in a trailer in the woods was unthinkable, but she also could empathize with making exceptions for her husband. She loved Weiss. If it was a question between spending her life with Weiss and losing him, there were a lot of her own values and comforts she would compromise to keep her husband.

"Like sitting through 3 extra innings of a Yankee-Red Sox game," She agreed with a knowing smirk.
xaddis0nx on June 2nd, 2007 06:25 am (UTC)
"Because that's definitely comparable to moving across the country to live in a tin can out in the middle of the woods," Addison teased, wrapping her arm around her friend and hugging her briefly to express that she was only joking. "But I know you understand the sacrifice."

She was truly happy to be here, not just in New York, but home. She was at home because it was New York and because she was finally with friends again. Life in Seattle could never be as great as this, unless of course all of her friends spontaneously decided to move there. She was sure that wasn't going to happen any time soon, so she wouldn't hold her breath.

Savvy chuckled and teased, "Well, Derek doesn't watch baseball. So, before you judge I think you should have to watch."

"But, things will get better," She mused after a few moments, "I mean, you haven't been this happy in a while. The trailer can't be that bad if you're actually satisfied, right?"
xaddis0nx on June 2nd, 2007 09:47 pm (UTC)
"Right," Addison nodded, smiling over at Savvy. "Everything's changing now, and I know things will only get better."

She and Derek had gone through so much together, and now they were starting a new life with everything put behind them. It didn't matter that there had been adultery, or that she moved across the country for him to keep punishing her. They were truly Addison and Derek now, and that was most important.

Savvy reached out and patted Addison's forearm somewhat affectionately, "I'm glad to see that you're going to be happy again. Things are going to work out for the two of you. I've always known they would."

She pulled back slightly, resting her arms against the counter before wondering, "What about you, though? Derek has several very fertile sisters to live up to. Are you going to have kids?"
xaddis0nx on June 3rd, 2007 07:26 am (UTC)
Addison gave her a soft smile. "I definitely want to," she answered, nodding her head. "Derek and I haven't really talked about it specifically, but I think it's a mutual agreement that we're both going to pursue the things we put off before. Our careers are at their peaks. It's time we focus on our family."

She really couldn't wait to start a family with Derek. He was the only one she wanted to have a baby with. Joy and happiness could not describe her feelings when she found out that she'd been pregnant with Mark's baby. Instead, she was scared and a little disappointed. Now she had Derek, though, and it was time that they started thinking about children.
