We all get by with a little help from our friends
Their day at the Brownstone had gone fairly well. There was a lot of pain and plenty of tears were shed, but at the end of it all, Addison and Derek had managed to find each other again. They were starting over, beginning a new life. It wasn't so much a clean slate because their past was always going to be there, but they were finally getting past it and letting go, moving on with their lives so they could be happy the way they should be.

After they'd spent the rest of their afternoon together shopping and doing other "things," they decided to give their friends and family a call, knowing that they'd never be able to live it down if someone found out that they were back in New York and didn't bother to tell anyone. Addison had called Savvy and Weiss first before calling Derek's mom. The plan soon became having dinner with Savvy and Weiss that evening and lunch with Mama Shepherd the next day.

Now they were at their friends' house. Derek was out in the living room with Weiss while Addison stayed in the kitchen to help Savvy.

WEISS
"Aw, come on! He totally had that," Weiss yelled at the television, shaking his head slightly before taking a swig of his beer.

He and Derek had been sitting in the living room and watching the game while the two women were doing their thing in the kitchen. The game was being rather disappointing so Weiss decided to ignore it for a while, turning his body slightly to face Derek a bit more.

"So how are things going with Addie?" he asked after drinking some more of his beer. "You two seem good."

Re: WEISS
Derek glanced over at Weiss, giving a short affirmative nod before raising his beer to his lips as his eyes processed the stats that were flashing across the screen. After a moment, he glanced back at Weiss and considered his answer briefly.

"Things are really good, for a change."

Re: WEISS
Weiss nodded, looking to the TV once more before turning his attention back to Derek. He was truly glad that his friends were finally happy again. He'd observed at dinner that the two of them were back to being their old selves. It was truly good to see Addison and Derek having worked things out.

"That's good," he mused after a moment. "Might I ask how you two managed to do that? Last I heard from Savvy, things were pretty much over."

Re: WEISS
Derek laughed ruefully, giving a brief shrug in response. Weiss's statement from Savvy had been completely accurate. He and Addison had been pretty much over, but somehow they'd made it. And it was truly something of a miracle.

"It was one of those things where I did something really stupid, and she forgave me," He answered simply, "You know how the women are. They'll hold a grudge, but they know when to let it go."

Re: WEISS
Weiss could definitely understand that. Even after the hard time he'd given Savvy when she wanted the hysterectomy, she was able to look past all of that and they went back into their normal routine rather quickly. They were better than they were before, and he certainly had a newfound appreciation for his wife.

"Yeah, I do know," Weiss said softly with a nod, sipping his beer. "Savvy and I are the same. We haven't had problems in a while, not since all of her surgeries."

SAVVY
After they'd settled into a brief, comfortable silence, Savvy reached for the bottle of wine. She filled Addison's glass before filling her own, effectively emptying the bottle. Smiling at her friend, she slipped from the barstool to her feet glancing towards the living room.

"Let's go see what the men are up to," She suggested as she started for the door.

Re: SAVVY
Addison smiled and hopped off the barstool, grabbing her glass of wine. She made her way over to Savvy and linked their arms together, both of them walking toward the living room where the sound of the TV was coming from.

"And maybe get those gears turning in their heads about babies," she added softly with a giggle in Savvy's ear.

Re: SAVVY
Savvy glanced over at Addison with an appreciative knowing grin as they entered the room. She crossed in front of the TV, splitting their arms before leaning in to give Weiss a quick kiss and settling into an arm chair next to the couch.

"Hows the game?" She wondered, lifting her wine glass to her lips.

Re: SAVVY
"Horrible," Weiss replied, glancing at Addison quickly as she took a seat between Derek and the arm of the couch. He turned back to Savvy and continued, "They're playing like shit today."

He lifted his beer to his lips and took a swig. Looking over at Savvy, he could tell that she seemed to be happier than usual. It was, no doubt, because their friends were back in town. Out of all their friends, Weiss knew that they were closest to Derek and Addison. It really hadn't been the same without them around.

Re: SAVVY
Derek nodded in agreement, his hand snaking across the couch to rest on Addison's thigh, "Needless to say, we're both grateful for the reprieve from this travesty."

Re: SAVVY
Addison scooted closer to him and wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling softly before leaning in to kiss him on the cheek. "Well, I think I speak for the both of us when I say that we're happy to oblige," she said, resting her chin onto his shoulder.

Re: SAVVY
Savvy nodded in agreement, grinning as she watched Addison's displays of affection to her husband. It was cute and a little bit out of character for a couple that had been married for a dozen years. She couldn't help but wonder if that was what rediscovering your love did for you.

Reaching out her foot to nudge her husband in the leg, Savvy wondered, "Weiss, did you ask Derek about their house in the Hamptons? I think it's only fair if they're going to live on the other side of the country, we should have a nice place to vacation."

Re: SAVVY
Weiss let out a hearty laugh and gave Savvy a knowing look, shaking his head slightly. "I guess I don't have to bring it up now," he mused before turning to Derek and Addison. "Well, what do you say, Derek? Addison? Think we can buy the house in the Hamptons from you guys?"

He was pretty sure Derek wouldn't have a problem with it since he never really liked the Hamptons in the first place. Addison was a completely different story. She loved the Hamptons, something about it being peaceful and relaxing, if he recalled correctly. Now, though, Weiss wasn't sure if she was still planning on keeping it.

Re: SAVVY
Derek's instinctive reaction would have been to offer the Hamptons house to their friends without any objections. He wasn't so sure Addison would be willing to part with their vacation house. They didn't have any use for it while they were in Seattle, but she had an attachment to anything related to their New York life.

He glanced from Weiss to Savvy briefly before turning his head to Addison with a raised eyebrow, "I don't know. What do you say, honey?"

Re: SAVVY
Addison loved their house in the Hamptons, and if it was practical to keep it, she would. However, their life was in Seattle now. It wasn't as convenient as it was before, and they couldn't just drive up there. They came here to settle everything with their real estate, and selling the house in the Hamptons was always a possibility. She could part ways with it easily, especially when it was going to her best friends.

"I can't think of any other couple who's more suited for that house than you guys," she replied, smiling over at Savvy and Weiss as she hugged Derek a little tighter.

Re: SAVVY
Savvy instantly turned her attention to Weiss, flashing him an "I told you so" look when he glanced to her. Once she'd gotten his attention, she smiled gratefully at Addison and Derek. They had one of the nicest houses in the Hamptons, something she'd always been jealous of, and Savvy knew Addison was attached to it. So she knew it was something of a sacrifice for them to be willing to get rid of it, but she also knew her friends were generous.

"Thank you, so much. You know I've been in love with that house since you guys bought it."
xaddis0nx on June 8th, 2007 05:47 am (UTC)
Re: SAVVY
"And she's been bugging me about getting it since you guys called earlier," Weiss added, smirking over at Savvy quickly before turning to give Derek and Addison and appreciative smile. "But really, thanks guys. I'm sure parting ways with this kind of stuff can't be all that pleasant."

Although Derek and Addison had been close to ending, he was positive the two of them were going to make it, even with all the complications of their past and all of their belongings here in New York. They'd overcome so many more harder things, and a few more weren't going to do much damage.

Re: SAVVY
Derek grinned knowingly, nodding in agreement. He glanced over at Addison briefly and pressed a supportive kiss to her cheek before looking back to Savvy and Weiss.

"I'm just grateful that we've found something to do with it," Derek responded, nodding his head in Addison's direction as he teased, "Someone doesn't like to part with things that remind her of her precious New York."
xaddis0nx on June 9th, 2007 06:26 am (UTC)
Re: SAVVY
"New York is home," Addison argued softly, "And I don't think we've even encountered having to give anything up, so you have no proof...yet."

She poked him in the ribs and settled back against the couch, turning her attention to Savvy and Weiss. She knew that her friends would put the house to good use, and they really did deserve it. They couldn't have given it to a better couple. She was, however, going to miss it and all of the memories it held. She'd also miss having some place to escape to, but she was sure to find such a place in Seattle.

Re: SAVVY
Savvy had settled back into the arm chair, her arms folded across her chest as she watched the exchange. She hadn't seen her friends this genuinely concerned and interested in each other for sometime now, and it was certainly fun to watch. This happiness was something they both deserved.

"I don't think he has much room to talk as long as you're still living in a trailer, right Add?" She wondered with a grin.

Re: SAVVY
Addison grinned over at Savvy and nodded. "You couldn't be more correct, Sav," she said, glad that she had someone on her side here.

That was rarely ever the case in Seattle. No one besides maybe Miranda would stand up for her during and argument there, but here in New York, things were different. She had friends, people she considered family. That was always the hardest thing to part with.

Re: SAVVY
"Why am I thinking that even if I did get rid of the trailer there would just be another reason I couldn't voice my opinion?" Derek teased with a grin, glancing to Weiss for a bit of support.

Re: SAVVY
Weiss nodded in agreement and glanced back and forth at both women, "Yeah, why is it that us men never get a say in anything? So much for equality in a marriage."
dr_shep on June 10th, 2007 04:51 am (UTC)
Re: SAVVY
Savvy kicked her foot out again, nudging him in the leg disapprovingly, "The reason you men married us was because of our wildly attractive good looks and because we know whats best for you. We're just doing what's best for you."
xaddis0nx on June 10th, 2007 06:32 am (UTC)
Re: SAVVY
"Exactly," Addison agreed, nodding her head and smirking over at Derek and Weiss. "We are always right, which is why you should never argue and always listen to what we have to say."
