We all get by with a little help from our friends
Their day at the Brownstone had gone fairly well. There was a lot of pain and plenty of tears were shed, but at the end of it all, Addison and Derek had managed to find each other again. They were starting over, beginning a new life. It wasn't so much a clean slate because their past was always going to be there, but they were finally getting past it and letting go, moving on with their lives so they could be happy the way they should be.

After they'd spent the rest of their afternoon together shopping and doing other "things," they decided to give their friends and family a call, knowing that they'd never be able to live it down if someone found out that they were back in New York and didn't bother to tell anyone. Addison had called Savvy and Weiss first before calling Derek's mom. The plan soon became having dinner with Savvy and Weiss that evening and lunch with Mama Shepherd the next day.

Now they were at their friends' house. Derek was out in the living room with Weiss while Addison stayed in the kitchen to help Savvy.

Derek nodded, digging into his pocket for the keys to the rental car with the hand that he didn't have wrapped around Addison. He tilted his head slightly to give the side of he head a kiss.

"I know, me too, Add," He unlocked the doors remotely and opening hers for her.

Addison unwrapped her arm from around his back and stepped towards the car. She turned her body towards him, leaning in for a brief kiss and smiling as she pulled back.

She silently wondered if it was too soon to bring up the topic of children. She'd seen how Weiss had reacted, and it wasn't a secret that Derek wasn't even thinking about it, considering how confused he seemed to be. Maybe it was too soon for them. They'd just gotten back on their feet and were only planning to start anew in Seattle. They were far from being stable.

Letting out a barely audible sigh, Addison turned and got into the car, putting on her seatbelt.

Derek watched Addison once she'd pulled away from the kiss. She seemed to pause as if considering something before sighing slightly. He brushed his hand along her back, guidng her into the car before shutting the door and going around to his side.

He slid across the seat, buckling his seatbelt and starting the car. It was impossible not to wonder what it was that was on her mind. She'd been almost unhappy with him back when they'd been in Savvy and Weiss's living room, but he hadn't really figured out what she was getting at. And now she seemed contemplative.

He didn't want to push. They were in such a perfect place, rediscovering their love in ways he wouldn't have thought possible even a week previously. He couldn't envision ruining that, but he couldn't help but feel a little lost.

Pulling into the somewhat busy side street, Derek laid his hand on the console and waited for her to take it.

Addison had been looking out the window, watching the lit buildings go by as he drove along. She heard him moving and turned to look at him, seeing his hand resting on the console. Smiling, she gladly took it and gave it a squeeze.

Being like this with Derek was everything she ever wanted. She didn't want to jeopardize that with any desires she may have. Having a baby was important, but it could wait. They'd waited this long already. A little longer wasn't going to hurt anybody.

She gave him a sweet smile as her thumb ran against the side of his hand lovingly. "I'm really glad we came back here, Derek," she said softly.

"I know," Derek responded softly, chancing a glance from the road to smile at her.

They'd already faced some really tough issues on this trip, but Derek could definitely repeat her sentiment. Being back here seemed to bring out something they'd been lacking in Seattle. It brought out something they'd been lacking since long before Seattle, if he were willing to admit it.

And he just hoped they wouldn't lose that after heading back to the land of rain and interns. He deftly changed lanes, glancing over his shoulder briefly before murmuring softly, "I love you, Addie."
