We all get by with a little help from our friends
Their day at the Brownstone had gone fairly well. There was a lot of pain and plenty of tears were shed, but at the end of it all, Addison and Derek had managed to find each other again. They were starting over, beginning a new life. It wasn't so much a clean slate because their past was always going to be there, but they were finally getting past it and letting go, moving on with their lives so they could be happy the way they should be.

After they'd spent the rest of their afternoon together shopping and doing other "things," they decided to give their friends and family a call, knowing that they'd never be able to live it down if someone found out that they were back in New York and didn't bother to tell anyone. Addison had called Savvy and Weiss first before calling Derek's mom. The plan soon became having dinner with Savvy and Weiss that evening and lunch with Mama Shepherd the next day.

Now they were at their friends' house. Derek was out in the living room with Weiss while Addison stayed in the kitchen to help Savvy.

Savvy giggled softly, glancing to Addison in appreciation. This break in the topic was much appreciated. Any opportunity to pick on the men with Addison was something she would readily welcome.

"Don't worry, Derek," Savvy mused condescendingly, "Weiss would never take off that '77 World Series T-shirt if it weren't for me."

"Hey," Weiss quickly interjected, "It's a nice shirt. There's no harm in wearing it as often as I can."

Weiss was a lot more than a bit relieved to have had the subject changed. It gave him more time to mull over the fact that his wife was looking to start a family and that he wasn't ready just yet. It also let Savvy cool off for a bit. Although, his wife picking at what she believed to be his flaws wasn't exactly ideal for him either.

Savvy rolled her eyes instantly, glancing to Addison in mock frustration, before informing her husband in a teasingly condescending voice, "It was a nice shirt 30 years ago, honey. I clean the kitchen with rags in better shape than that shirt."

She settled back against the chair, crossing her arms over her chest in challenge. They'd moved on, and she was glad. Teasing Weiss kept her from feeling so helpless at the thought of his lack of desire to have children.

Addison laughed softly, enjoying their pointless banter. She knew that nothing would change, really. The men would still want to wear their favorite articles of clothing, not to mention this wouldn't affect their perspectives about having children in the slightest. It did, however, provide a nice break from all of the earlier tension.

"Seriously, I don't what the big deal is," she mused, "If something gets old, you go out and buy something new. Why is it that you guys have issues parting with clothing?"

"I think you should be careful where you tread in the subject of getting rid of clothing, Add," Derek cautioned with a knowing smirk, "I happen to recall more pairs of shoes than you could ever wear in a month being stuffed into the cabinets of my trailer. I don't think Weiss and I are the ones who struggle to part with clothing."
xaddis0nx on June 21st, 2007 09:17 pm (UTC)
"Yes, but I don't try wearing old, raggedy clothing," Addison argued immediately. "It's unfashionable and not to mention childish, kind of like a small child carrying around a blankie."

She scooted herself back on the arm of the chair to rest against the back of it. Skillfully, she balanced herself and crossed her legs, looking over at the two men.

"Because being unfashionable is the deadliest sin of all!" Derek retorted facetiously, acting as if he were just coming to that realization. He leaned over and glanced at Weiss, "If that's the case, you and I don't have much hope for salvation."

After finishing his statement, he turned his attention to Addison momentarily giving her a challenging stare. He knew she would have some comeback; she always did. But this was fun. It held a different dynamic because Savvy and Weiss were an equal part in this, but it also reminded him of the playful bantering they did so well as a couple.

Weiss let out a chuckle, only managing to nod in agreement. He'd certainly lost count of how many times Savvy had called him unfashionable or questioned his fashion sense. He didn't understand why it was that women cared so much about what they wore. If it fits, then wear it; that was how he thought everyone should live in regards to clothing.

"I suppose we do have these women to help save us," he added, still laughing softly as he glanced at Savvy.

Savvy had met Addison's gaze when Derek had made his sarcastic comment, and the two women had shared a momentary eye roll to communicate their hopeless men. But a slight grin had come to her face at Weiss's remark. It was hard to be in such a stagnant place with her husband. They were both stubborn, and she needed something more. She couldn't deny that she loved him, however. The cute look on his face as he'd reminded Derek that she and Addie would save them had reminded her of that.

"I don't know," She teased, settling into a slight playfulness after having been calmed, "You men are pretty hopeless."

"Yeah," Addison laughed, agreeing with her friend, "I'm not sure there's much else we can do to help."

It was such a relief to not have all of that tension in the room. She could tell that Savvy was starting to lighten up a bit, slowly forgetting about starting a family for the time being. It was an important discussion, but one certainly not suitable while she and Derek around. Likewise, talking with Derek about children wouldn't go well with being at Savvy and Weiss's place either. All of them would just have to wait and possibly argue about it some other time.

Derek shrugged, a smirk playing on his face, "I pity you two women. You're stuck with us helpless, unfashionable lugs."

He lifted his beer to his lips, draining the last drops before glancing down at his watch. The time had just clicked past 10:30, and he honestly hadn't' realized how long they'd been with their friends. It had been nice, of course, but it'd also been a long day for himself and Addison. Getting some more alone time with her would have certainly been nice.

"Wow, Add, it's getting pretty late," Derek suggested, "I think the two who aren't on vacation probably don't appreciate us taking up all their time."

Addison glanced at the clock on the mantel and nodded, "Yeah, we really should get going. We kind of have a big day tomorrow too."

Her hand slid down to rub Savvy's back gently. She really hoped the best for her friend. She wasn't sure if Sav was going to try and tackle this adopting thing once they'd left or not, but it was going to happen sooner or later, just like her children discussion with Derek.

Standing up, Addison straightened out her skirt. "It's been really great, you guys," she said, smiling at both of her friends.

Savvy hadn't realized the time had been flying by so quickly. It certainly wasn't late by most standards, but as they'd gotten older, 10:30 was much later than it had been years before. She knew the chance of seeing their friends again on this vacation was slim, but she also knew she and Addison would do better at keeping in contact. She needed that friendship more than she'd realized.

"Thanks for stopping by, we've missed you," She rose to her feet and eveloped Addison in a hug.
xaddis0nx on June 27th, 2007 04:31 am (UTC)
"Tonight's been really great, man," Weiss said, standing up and holding his hand out to Derek.

He wasn't going to echo Savvy's words, but he really did miss having his two best friends around. He missed their nightly outtings and just hanging out, teaming up against the women. Once Derek and Addison were gone, there was no telling when they'd see each other again.

Derek took Weiss's hand in a firm but brief shake, "Come out to Seattle again, sometime. I'll get us some tickets to the Mariners or something."

He stepped back from his friend, starting towards the door. With a smile, he reached for Addison's hand.
